A new Necron age-a new colour scheme plan

Now, as anyone who has faced my legion of Nerons before will tell you, I have allways painted them ina single colour of Space Wolves Grey with blacks poking through at the joints and such. Examples:



However, I have also made it clear that I am rebuilding my necrons from effective scratch with the arrival of the new Codex and with a new army, comes a desire for a brand new colour scheme.
I want to keep Space Wolves Grey as my core colour but want to apply some sort of wash to it to make the colour look a little darker as well as add a secondery colour that gives the 'crons more feel to them. At the moment I have this:

I'm asking if anyone knows of any washes that work well with Space Wolves Grey. I have Scab Red as the secondery colour at the moment and want to avoid falling into the Tomb Kings from SPAAACE! thing thats going on.
Any idea on how to do a better paint technique or such?

Personally I don't like a ceramic colour scheme on Necrons, I much prefer a metallic or ancient wornlook.

If it were me I'd undercoat it black, dry brush it boltgun metal with highlights of mithril silver, then I'd get a stipple brush and dab flecks of scorched brown on the feet and ankles. Finally I'd smear a light coat of tin bitz on the flatter surfaces, like shoulders and pauldrons. My wash would be a mix of badab black and thraka green. My wraith had a delicious thraka green wash and it gave it the eerie effect of glowing.

I'd probably go a step further and pva glue scorched grass into any joints I could find but that really depends on how lazy I am at the moment. But back on what you want for a second, the single greatest wash is badab black, every time.

Aye thats a very good paint style for the traditional necron. But I want my army to be diffrent, to have a diffrent image to them then just rusty robots. My first Necrons I painted were done that way but I grew a little bored with them fitting with with every other necron.
With the addition of the new fluff that shows each necron lord is diffrent now, it is all the more reason for my army to differ from the boltgun metal look.

Perhaps it is time to incorporate both? The Necron Lords seem grander and more detailed now so why don't add bits of gold to your models?

I'm tempted to gold, but like i say that strikes me as too Tomb King.
At the moment i have it fluffed that the red on the necrons in my army mark the standing they held in necrontyr society before they became necrons. Warriors only have their shoulders red but the lord will have his whole ribcage (chest plate) painted red.
I will a little gold to decorations and details on the lord but other then that probily not.

It's up to you really, I don't think I'll be getting any of the Necrons either, I sold my old ones a long time ago.

top tip, mix a bit of sand into brown and silver paint for awesome rust.
