Each of you is holding your pokemon eggs that you have just been given and are on your way to meet up with the gym leaders of Shadow City in order to get an introduction to the world of pokemon
[20:55] <@Dark> "We will be getting there in about fifteen mins!" shouts the driver "How bought you lot get to know each other before then? The gym leaders like that"

[20:56] <%Ven> "Karm" i smile "Karm Thrice"
[20:56] <%Spiritcurse> "I'm Lucas, nice to meet you." I extend a hand nervously.
[20:58] <%GrandTheft> "I'm Jayson" I smirk. "Most people call me Jay"
[21:00] <%Ven> i accept his hand and shake firmly
[21:01] <@Dark> Over the trees in the distance, you see a flock of bird pokemon rise into the air

[21:02] <%Dorian> I smile sinisterly to myself, before swiftly returning my face to a stoic image.

[21:11] <@Dark> Suddenly the entire bus heaves as the ground explodes next to it

[21:11] <%Ven> "Oh Fuck!" i shout falling from my seat

[21:11] <%Dorian> "Gutterdamnen!"
[21:12] <@Dark> Another explosion sends you flying back up right as a couple of large shapes step out of the trees, fireing a beam of shimmering lights at you again

[21:13] <%Dorian> "Oh, fuck my life!"
[21:13] <%GrandTheft> "What the hell is going on"
[21:13] <%Spiritcurse> "Let's run, aye? Us, away. One of you, towards."
[21:13] <@Dark> the man kicks open the door and shouts for you all to get out

[21:14] <%Dorian> I grab my egg and make for the door. "You don't have to tell me twice!"

[21:14] <%Ven> i charge out the door cradling my egg
[21:14] <%Spiritcurse> I sprint after them, egg shoved hastily in my pack.
[21:15] <%GrandTheft> I slip my egg into my backpack and hop out the door "Alright, Alright"
[21:15] <@Dark> He points to a large rock nearby and orders for you to get behind it as the bus explodes from another pair of direct hits. its metal being reduced to twisted metal
[21:15] <%Dorian> I seem to think twice, before moving back to grab my pack and then leaving the bus.
[21:16] <%Spiritcurse> "Well, shit."
[21:16] <@Dark> "Keep down"
[21:16] <%GrandTheft> "This is great, Real smooth."
[21:17] <%Spiritcurse> "Now, I may not be a qualified driver, but I do know one thing. That's not how you do it."

[21:18] <@Dark> The burning bus is ripped apart as the two pokemon walk thorugh it, their bodies being shown to be made of pure rock as they move through the fire

[21:20] <@Dark> As if to prove the point, one of the rock pokemon fires its beam neaby, glimering lights tearing apart the ground in an explosion of dirt and light

[21:21] <%Ven> "Shit!" i shout as i am about to run were the beam struck
[21:21] <%GrandTheft> "Ok i will stay here with the driver, You guys can run"
[21:22] <%GrandTheft> I clench the straps on my backpack
[21:22] <@Dark> you see that the ground has been torn apart as if hit by a thousand hard gems...some still gleaming out from the dirt
[21:22] <%Ven> "Driver! you have any pokemon?!"
[21:22] <@Dark> yer...but it wont do any good...its only a Chimchar"
[21:23] <%Spiritcurse> "We're doomed. However, that's shiny."

[21:23] <%Dorian> "A Chi... Well, that's just fucking GREAT!"
[21:24] <@Dark> "Bo..." The rock pokemon growl as they begin to advance towards the sound of shouting
[21:24] <%GrandTheft> "Erm everyone stop shouting i think we are pissing whatever it is off"
[21:24] <%Spiritcurse> Pointing wildly towards the others, I yell "It's him you want!".
[21:25] <%Ven> "Coward" i growl
[21:25] <@Dark> They both growl loudly before rising on their three rock like legs and charging up another attack
[21:25] <@Dark> "Charizard!!"
[21:26] <%Dorian> "Well, my opinion of him just went down. We ever meet him again, we beat him senseless and take his mone... Ok, Charizard? What?"
[21:26] <@Dark> Suddenly, the whole of the field is engulfed in fire as a massive shape slams down into the ground nearby, vomiting a terribe amount of fire towards the two pokemon

[21:26] <%Ven> "Holy!" i cry "Thats fucking awesome!!"
[21:27] <%GrandTheft> "Holy" I jump behind Lucas
[21:27] <@Dark> a man jumps of its back and hurls to pokeballs into the air, unleashing a green pokemon and a large turtle like pokemon with cannons on its back

[21:28] <@Dark> He barks an order and the two pokemon jump to action, the turtle blasting a strong beam of water at htem whilst the grass type jump on one of their backs and blasting a bullet seed into its chest
[21:28] <%Dorian> "Backup? More like our freaking saviour!"
[21:28] <@Dark> within seconds, both rock pokemon are no longer moving
[21:29] <%GrandTheft> "The power" I stare in amazement "Its, Beautiful"
[21:29] <%Ven> "Hell Yeah!" i shout watching the fight
[21:29] <%Spiritcurse> "Well, that saved our life."
[21:29] <%Dorian> "Indeed. Not dying is fun, isn't it?"
[21:29] <%Ven> "Aww man your awesome!" i shgout to the guy
[21:30] <@Dark> "Took your time" The bus driver calls out as the grass and water type pokemon are retunred to their pokeblass

[21:32] <@Dark> The man says nothing as he pets his Charizard looking over to the two rock pokemon "I've never seen anything like them before..."

[21:34] <%Spiritcurse> While asking, I root around on the ground for gems.

[21:34] <@Dark> as you pull them from the ground, they crumble to dust

[21:36] <@Dark> even the Charizard giggles slightly, causing a bought of flame to burst from its nose

[21:41] <@Dark> The Charizard gives a long grin to its trainer before grabbing your shoulders with its claws and hurling you into the air as it takes flight

[21:43] <@Dark> The man whispers somthing to the fire type pokemon and it does a barrel roll and a cartwheel in mid air

[21:45] <@Dark> Finally, Charizard calms down and takes a calmer flight patten, flying towards Shadow City as the man laughs

[21:51] <@Dark> the pokemon gives a roar as it suddenly starts to plumet, heading down towards a gian building in the centre of Shadow City with a large yellow C painted on the roof

[21:52] <%Ven> "Very clever" i mutter
[21:52] <%Spiritcurse> "I dunno, this is fun."
[21:53] <@Dark> The landing is suprisingly gentle as the pokemon lands, lowering its wing so you can get off and the man leaping to his feet in a single swift movment...seconds within even landing
[21:53] <%Spiritcurse> I clamer off, steadying myself on the roof.
[21:53] <@Dark> "Allways fun Charizard" he grins, resting his hand on the pokemon
[21:54] <%Ven> i slide off and pat the dragon
[21:54] <%Dorian> I climb off, and collapse, clawing at the ground whilst gasping for air. "WE. ARE. NEVER. DOING. THAT. AGAIN!"
[21:55] <@Dark> The fire type seems to almost purr as he strokes it and lets go of jayson
[21:55] <%Spiritcurse> "Again, again! That was fun!"
[21:55] <@Dark> "Not enjoy that?" A girls asks as she walks up towards you from a door on the roof
[21:55] <%GrandTheft> "Thank you, Although i dont think im going to fly Charizard air anytime soon" I huff

[22:08] <@Dark> Jack raises his eyebrown and exchanges a look with the woman as Charizard gives a growl at the intrusion before using its tail to flick you off

[22:13] <+Kite> "My name is Felix, nice to meet you." I say in a somewhat girly voice.

[22:14] <@Dark> "This is Felix. hes starting on his own pokemon journey too"

[22:14] <@Dark> "Indeed! To the hatcher!"
[22:14] <+Kite> Gives a small bow to everyone then trips over feet.
[22:14] <%Dorian> "Let's just get on with this goddamned hatching, then!"

[22:15] <%Ven> "Onward to Jack's house!" i point waling forwards

[22:16] <@Dark> Jack leads you all through the door and down a long corridoor. He then opens another door a couple of feet away and takes you to large machine built in the side

[22:16] <%Spiritcurse> "Woah..."
[22:17] <%Ven> "Nice, guessing thats it!" as i run towards it
[22:17] <%Spiritcurse> "I want to go first!"
[22:17] <+Kite> "I'll go last."
[22:18] <@Dark> "Yup its right...waaa!" Jack withdraws a hand as a long scythe flies down, revealing a large pokemon stood in the shadows beside the machine
[22:18] <%Dorian> "Well, then. I'll go as soon as that damn scythe thing buggers off!"
[22:18] <%Ven> " Woah" i cry turning to the pokemon
[22:19] <%Spiritcurse> "What the hell is that?"
[22:19] <@Dark> "Arceus...Kabotops...you scared the hell out of me!"
[22:20] <+Kite> "Cool a fosiil pokemon!"
[22:20] <%Ven> "Awesome"
[22:20] <%GrandTheft> "Nice"
[22:21] <@Dark> "Kabo" The pokemon growls before it seems to recognise Jack and nods, allowing him to the machine
[22:21] <%Spiritcurse> "I want one! Now, machine time!"
[22:21] <%Dorian> "Yes, I couldn't've put it better myself."
[22:21] <%GrandTheft> I open my bag and hold the egg in my arms
[22:21] <%Spiritcurse> Swinging my bag over my shoulder, I pull out my egg. "Now what?"
[22:22] <@Dark> The kabotps holds out its scyth like arms for Dorian to hand it the egg
[22:22] <%Dorian> I get my egg out and hand it over very reluctantly. "Be careful, ok?"
[22:22] <%GrandTheft> "That thing is still scary...."
[22:23] <@Dark> "Kabotops" It mutters as it takes the egg and drops it into the machine, tapping keys with the tips of its scyth in a suprisingly gentle way
[22:23] <%Spiritcurse> "Aww, I wanted to go first."
[22:24] <@Dark> The machine buzzes and the egg is consumed in white light before it opens again and a small pokemon drops out
[22:24] <%Spiritcurse> "That's cute! I want one. What is it?"
[22:24] <%Dorian> I smile to myself, and start to move towards the pokémon.
[22:25] <@Dark> "interesting..." jack mutters before holding out a small red item "Scan it with this
[22:25] <%Spiritcurse> "My go my go my go!"
[22:26] <%Dorian> I take the object, and tap a few buttons on it. "Well, let's see what just happened, then."
[22:26] <@Dark> The machine beeps a couple of times before a robotic female voice sounds out
[22:26] <@Dark> Beldum, the Iron Ball Pokémon. Beldum floats by emitting magnetic waves from its body to repel the Earth's magnetic field. They launch their claws into cliffs where they sleep.
[22:27] <@Dark> it then powers down
[22:27] <+Kite> "A steel psychic type? That's so cool!"
[22:27] <%Dorian> "Beldum? Is that what this is, then?" I turn towards the pokemon.
[22:27] <%Spiritcurse> "That's so cool!"
[22:27] <@Dark> the Kabotops nods before reaching its claws out towards Lucas
[22:27] <%GrandTheft> "That thing looks cool, Why does it have one eye"
[22:27] <%Spiritcurse> "Yay!"
[22:28] <%Dorian> I pick up the pokémon and, stroking it gently, move away from the hatcher.
[22:28] <@Dark> again the machine buzzes and a small pokemon is revlead, then handed over to you along with another red machine to scan it
[22:28] <%Spiritcurse> "Yeah! I got a... dog thing."
[22:29] <%GrandTheft> "Me next, I need to know what mine is"
[22:29] <@Dark> "Riolu, the Emanation Pokémon. When sad or scared, Riolu's aura becomes stronger as a way of signaling its allies"
[22:29] <%Spiritcurse> I tap a few more buttons, then, satisfied with the blue colour scheme on the screen, begin scanning pretty muchy everything.
[22:29] <%Spiritcurse> "I like this!"
[22:30] <@Dark> Again, kabotops takes the egg and drops it into the machine. You are then handed the pokemon and a machine
[22:30] <+Kite> "Not trying to sound stupid but what's aura?" I say while trying to poke the pokemon.
[22:30] <@Dark> "Ask Mike" Saren grins "He has one of those too"
[22:30] <%Spiritcurse> "Isn't it some psychic thing?"
[22:30] <%GrandTheft> I press some buttons, Scanning the pokemon
[22:31] <%Spiritcurse> "Yeah, it's some psychic thing that living beings give off. It's pretty cool."
[22:31] <@Dark> "Bagon, the Rock Head Pokémon. Bagon dreams of being able to fly through the air. When frustrated from not flying, Bagon uses its head to smash rocks into powder"
[22:31] <%Dorian> "Heh. A brute force pokemon. Nice."

Might I ask, how does combat not work? I mean, sure, it was designed for use with a gaming board, but so was 3.5, and we play that just fine over IRC.

Average HP at level 5 = 15
Average damage at level 5 = 2d10+7 = 18

The problem become apparent. Is your speed higher? Then you've probably won. Did you miss/roll badly on your first hit? Then you've lost.

Hmm, point taken. Now, I know this will sound insane, and believe me, it may be, but wouldn't it all be rectified if we simply use GURPS and stat the pokémon ourselves? Before anyone slaps me, or calls me insane, or says that it's too much work, remember. GURPS works, and there are a good 6+ people on this site who know how GURPS works, 4 or 5 of them are in this campaign, and of those, at least one of them has mastered the art of statting unoriginal things (our glorious leader, for your information). So, opinions?

Thank you! I don't like the come across as always saying this, but GURPS really can do anything. They're covered pretty much everything between various sourcebooks, and a little consultation with Dorian or me can give you anything you can't find, occasionally with page references.

And yes, possibly the most obscure things I've statted was a zombie virus and the concept of hope. My god, concepts are tricky to stat.

3.5 could also work to an extent - a few custom classes, and then some work on custom monsters.

Well. 3.5. I hadn't thought of that. Now, when I first started my horrible, horrible munchkinning, the first thing I did in 3.5 was, in rules, design a magic item that worked exactly like a pokéball does. My original plan was for a campaign based around capturing monsters, then using them in mock-up wars to win a championship. You want I should dig up the stats for that item?

Indeed you should. Although it wouldn't be hard to do by RAW, and DM fiat can make it even easier.

Is there a way we can combine the two? the pokemon stating for PTA combined with the combat systerm of GURPS?

Oh, wait. Just had another looksie at the PTA rulebook, and the average stage 1 pokémon averages out as having flatline stats of 5 at level 1, making the average HP at level 5 around 21 (3XLevel + HP), and the average damage (2d10+5.5)-applicable defense (around 5.5), or 11. Also, have you guys been using the evasion modifiers (add (applicable def/5 + speed/10) to the opponent's move's accuracy) rules? If not, attacks will be hitting a lot more that they should be. However, if that still seems broken as all high holy fuck, then I'll get searching. If not, then, well, whatever.
